John O'Shea graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1978. His internship and basic physician training were performed at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children between 1979 and 1980. Dr O'Shea then moved overseas where he obtained postgraduate experience at the King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban, South Africa and the Royal Post Graduate Medical School in London. In 1983, he returned to the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre in Perth to study Cardiology. Having completed advanced training in 1987, Dr O'Shea was awarded a National Heart Foundation Fellowship which he undertook at Harvard Medical School in Boston USA for two years. He returned to Australia in 1989 to take up the position of Consultant Cardiologist with the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Fremantle Hospital in Western Australia. Dr O'Shea was Head of Department of Cardiovascular Medicine from 1994 to 1996. Dr O'Shea has broad interests in cardiology and performs coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty and stent insertion, transoesophageal echocardiography and permanent pacemaker implants. Dr O'Shea is a partner of WA Cardiology. He offers cardiology consultation at Murdoch, Geraldton, Bunbury, Mount Lawley, Rockingham and Mandurah. He is chairman of the West Australian branch of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, a patron of the Fremantle Heart Patients Support Group and President of the National Heart Foundation (WA branch). |
